5 people died as result house collapse in Sho’ub district in Sana’a

Five people died and two others were injured as a result of the total collapse of the roof of a three-storey house in Al-Furqan neighborhood in Himyar neighborhood in Sho’ub district in capital Sana’a.

The head of the emergency operations room in the capital, Abd al-Wahhab Sharaf al-Din, and the director of the district, Ahmed al-Sammad, explained that the collapse of the roof of the house occurred suddenly in the middle of Friday night killing five people, and injuring two others who were taken to the hospital.

He pointed out that immediately after receiving the report of the accident, they went down with the leadership of the Sho’ub district, Public Works and Civil Defense offices in the capital, the Directorate, ambulances and security, to the place and carried out the rescue operation, exhuming the victims from under the rubble, and transporting the injured to the hospital.

Sharaf al-Din and al-Sammad attributed the causes of the collapse to the obsolescence of the house, which was built of “mud”, and to the fact that it had been abandoned for a long time. They pointed out that the victims were useing one of the rooms in the house during the period of khat chewing, and they were left after finishing.

In addition, the head of the Social Affairs Committee in the Al-Amana locality, Hammoud Al-Naqeeb, directed the leadership of the Sho’ub Directorate and the Public Works Office to complete the demolition of the completely collapsed house. In order to preserve the safety of the neighboring houses..noting the efforts and speed of all concerned offices and the Directorate, immediately after receiving the report of the accident.

Al-Naqeeb, Al-Sammad, Amin and members of the local council in Sho’ub, during the funeral of the victims’ bodies, today, Friday, offered condolences to the families of the victims and their families.
