China Awards Scholarships to 303 Ethiopian Students


Addis Ababa: A farewell ceremony was held for 303 Ethiopian students admitted to Chinese universities in the academic year 2024/2025.

Speaking at the ceremony organized at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia today, Minister Counselor Shen Qinmin said that the Chinese government and MOFCOM scholarships have enabled many aspiring Ethiopian young students to realize their dream of studying in prestigious universities of China.

In recent years, an increasing number of young Ethiopians have fulfilled their dream of studying for bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in prestigious Chinese universities.

According to the minister counselor, 23 of the total 303 scholarships are Chinese government full scholarships and the rest 280 MOFCOM scholarships.

Minister Counselor Shen said that the scholarships play a crucial role and driving force for Ethiopia in promoting all round economic and social developments, stressing that Ethiopia and China now are making greatest efforts in striving for their respective modernization
and achieve the goal of high quality development with the strong support of thriving education, science and technology.

He pointed out that the scholarship programs is of paramount importance in playing a bridging role in promoting cultural exchange, mutual learning and deepening all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries.

Ethiopia’s Scholarship and Internationalization Desk Head at the Ministry of Education, Idossa Terfassa said that supporting Ethiopia’s human resource development through long and short term training, and higher education scholarship programs are focus areas of bilateral agreement between the two nations.

The scholarship programs strengthen the bilateral relations between the great nations, beyond excelling educational careers of the students, he added.

The head urged the scholarship winners to shoulder the responsibility to uphold the value of excellence, integrity and service to others.
