FOCAC Leaders’ Summit to Kick off Today


Addis Ababa: An Ethiopian delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie participated in the Ninth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing on September 3, 2024.

The conference reviewed and successfully completed all preparatory work for the summit, adopting the draft agenda and outcome documents.

The conference emphasized FOCAC’s role as a highly effective platform for South-South Cooperation, contributing to substantial development and shared prosperity.

Participants reviewed the progress made in implementing the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC in 2021 and endorsed the Beijing Declaration and Beijing Action Plan (2025-2027).

These documents will be submitted to the upcoming FOCAC Leaders’ Summit for adoption by consensus, according to Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The event saw the participation of foreign ministers and economic ministers from 53 African countries, as well as representatives from the A
frican Union and other regional and international organizations.

The FOCAC Ministerial Conference marks a significant milestone, laying the groundwork for FOCAC Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place from September 4-6, 2024.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and First Lady Zinash Tayachew are in Beijing, China on an official visit and attend FOCAC Leaders’ Summit.
