PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR COMPETITIVENESS AND DIGITAL, MARITIME AND SERVICES ECONOMY: Three iGaming companies plan for future expansion-Minister Mallia visits three iGaming companies

Minister for Competitiveness and Digital, Maritime and Services Economy Emmanuel Mallia paid a courtesy visit to three iGaming and digital companies: NetRefer, Videoslots, and NetEnt.

The three companies stated that they have plans for further expansion and praised the government’s solid intervention to help solve the digital skills shortage that has been posing a challenge to the industry in the past few years. This will be remediated through various educational initiatives, partnerships and frameworks being prepared and agreed upon with private and public institutions. The iGaming sector has long been one of the island’s largest employers, but with rapid advances in technology and new market trends, the industry is struggling to fill job vacancies.

Emmanuel Mallia said that new legislation is in its final stages and takes into account new emerging trends in consumer behaviour, technology development, mobility of services and interoperability, amongst other factors.

He continued by saying that: “The Government has been responsible in providing the necessary frameworks, platforms, resources and tools which will allow the iGaming sector to operate smoothly and become a leading driving force in the economy and achieve the desired goals.”
