PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR SOCIAL DIALOGUE, CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES – “Change is possible and achievable when we show determination, explain our goals, and work things out in the best way possible” – Minister Helena Dalli

Speaking during a seminar entitled “I am what I am” organised by the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions, Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli spoke about the way Malta has evolved in the past three and a half years, from a socially conservative country to a society which embraces diversity.

Minister Dalli remarked how thanks to a strong partnership with civil society, Malta has shown political leadership, and managed to turn around unfavourable public opinion.

Dr Dalli mentioned a list of achievements by the Maltese Government in the field of equality.

“Change is possible and achievable when we show determination, explain our goals, and work things out in the best way possible,” emphasised Minister Dalli.

Referring to various events that the Ministry for Civil Liberties will be holding throughout the upcoming Malta Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Dr Dalli said that the Government wants to ensure that Europe brings out its “social soul” and is most relevant to the citizens, especially to the most marginal groups.

Minister Dalli stated that Europe needs action for change on all fronts and everyone has a role to play.

“We are doing this to achieve a momentum for concentrated progress,” concluded Dr Dalli.
