President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca welcomed President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at San Anton Palace.

During the meeting, President Coleiro Preca and President Poroshenko spoke about the bilateral relations between Malta and Ukraine. President Coleiro Preca said that Malta and Ukraine are both committed to enhancing bilateral relations, and added that both countries will be looking into various opportunities through which these can be further enhanced. President Coleiro-Preca said that it is very important that our relations go down to people level and not stop at just the diplomatic and political level.

The President also said that Malta remains committed to supporting Ukraine, even through the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, to finalise the visa liberalisation and double taxation agreement with the European Union Member States.

President Coleiro Preca also commended the 600-strong Ukranian community residing in Malta, describing them as hard-working, peaceful, and well integrated in the Maltese community.

President Poroshenko thanked President Coleiro Preca for her hospitality, and said that this historic first-ever visit by a Ukranian President to Malta is testimony to the commitment of both countries.
