PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Deputy Speaker receives Ambassador of Finland on a farewell visit

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Claudette Buttigieg, has received a farewell visit by the Ambassador of Finland, Mr Janne Taalas, whose accreditation to Malta has come to an end.

The Deputy Speaker expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Taalas for his hard work, during his tenure of office, in order to strengthen the diplomatic relations between Malta and Finland.

Ambassador Taalas referred to the two visits to Malta by the Prime Minister of Finland which enhanced these relations. He elaborated on the political system in Finland and said that the present government consisted of 19 Ministers, 11 of which were women.

The two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly relations with the European Union, given that on 1st July 2019 Finland starts its third Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Issues relating to migration, climate change, gender equality and education were also raised during the very cordial discussion.

Mr Ray Scicluna, Clerk of the House, was also present for the meeting.
