PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Deputy Speaker receives the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Claudette Buttigieg, received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile, Sergio Romero Pizzaro, who is resident in Rome.

Deputy Speaker Buttigieg gave the Ambassador a resume of the history of Malta and referred to the changes which have been carried out lately in Malta. She mentioned the foreign investments in the financial sector, gaming, tourism and recently blockchain and artificial intelligence. She also elaborated on the recent elections to the European Parliament and the set-up of the Maltese Parliament.

The Chilean Ambassador said that he looked to closer relationship between Malta and Chile, particularly between Universities. He added that that Chile had economic synergy with the US and with Asia, with 25% of Chile’s trade being done with China.

The two visits to Chile in 2018 by the Maltese Archbishop Mons Charles J. Scicluna as the Special Envoy of the Vatican were also mentioned.

Mr Ray Scicluna, Clerk of the House, was also present for the meeting.
