PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER: Polish ambassador pays farewell call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives

Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Dr Jolanta Janek paid a farewell call on Speaker of the House of Representatives Anglu Farrugia.

Speaker Farrugia expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Janek for her valuable work during her tour of duty as Ambassador of Poland to Malta, which resulted in enhancing the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Malta and the Republic of Poland.

The two dignitaries noted that these ties have been reinforced by high level exchange visits and meetings including the visits to Poland by Speaker Farrugia, who, inter-alia, attended the celebration of the 550th anniversary of the Polish Parliamentarism in Warsaw last July.

They discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly co-operation at parliamentary level following the formation of their respective parliamentary friendship group. They also referred to the Maltese community in Poland, the increase in the direct flights between Malta and Poland as well as the increase in the number of tourists visiting both countries.

Migration, Brexit, the Mediterranean, the forthcoming European Parliament elections, and the role of National Parliaments also featured in the discussion.
