PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Speaker Farrugia receives Kuwaiti ambassador

Speaker Anglu Farrugia received the new Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Malta Faisal Ghazi Almutairi.

Speaker Farrugia referred to the cordial relations that exist between the two countries, following their establishment in 1972. He recalled when in 1990 Malta, through the then UNGA President Guido de Marco, stood by Kuwait during its darkest hour, when it was invaded by Iraq. He said that these relations were enhanced by the state visit of the late President Demarco to Kuwait in 2004 and other high-level visits that have taken place in the recent past, the latest by Minister Carmelo Abela last October.

The two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly co-operation between the Parliaments of the two countries. They referred to the Kuwaiti students currently following Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry courses in Malta as well as the Maltese residing in Kuwait. The relations between Kuwait and the European Union also featured in the discussion.

Mr Faisal Ghazi Almutairi was accompanied by Mr Mohammad Alnuaimi, Counsellor and Deputy Ambassador, and Mr Mohammad Alqattan, Second Secretary, at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Malta.
