Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr An?lu Farrugia has received the new Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr Oliver Shambevski, on a courtesy visit.

Speaker Farrugia referred to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and Macedonia, which will facilitate high-level contacts and will pave the way for further cooperation between the two countries. In this regard, he recalled the Maltese Group 6PM (now Idox) that had set up offices in Skopje in September 2011 and the forthcoming two weekly flights between Malta and Skopje operated by Wizz Air.

The two sides discussed the present internal political situation in Macedonia, following the elections held last December, as well as the latter’s interest in joining the European Union. They also referred to Parliamentary cooperation through the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The Ambassador of Macedonia was accompanied by the First Secretary at the Embassy of Macedonia in Rome, Mr Zulfi Ismaili, who is presently resident in Malta to cover the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU.
