PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITIES: Local councils are offering education in areas that prepare individuals for employment

I notice with satisfaction the fact that today local councils are offering training even in areas that prepare individuals for experience in the work sector. This means that they are understanding their role as the authority which is closest to the citizens, said Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis during the launch of a training project about Artificial Intelligence and coding in the community. Furthermore, the Robotica courses, which were a great success last year, will start once again this summer.

These courses will be held by local councils in collaboration with TCTC, which this year company has also teamed with the University of Malta and will be providing Artificial Intelligence course materials and notes. Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Parnis added that these courses, targeted at children aged between 5 to 14 years, help to develop the character and personality of young children by means of exercises which at first glance may appear to be simple but, teach children the values of teamwork and discipline as well as the use of logic. Parliamentary Secretary Parnis concluded that the present government is deeming these technologies of great importance and these projects are a proof of this. These will continue helping our children develop skills for a future based on Blockchain and AI.

TCTC Director Ray Abela said that in today’s digital age, knowing how to code can be likened to being able to read. Ray Abela added that the IT company pioneered ICT training 33 years ago and this is another opportunity for it to be instrumental in the promotion and training of Artificial Intelligence in Malta.
