PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER: Malta will be hosting the Informal Summit of European Leaders on 3rd February 2017

The 3rd of February 2017 is the confirmed date for the Informal Summit of European Leaders in Malta which will focus on the future of the European Union.

Earlier this month, during a meeting with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk described Malta as the country with the best capabilities to take on this responsibility that will drive forward Europe’s new agenda during a time of reflection when decisions need to be taken within stipulated timeframes.

This discussion commenced last week in Bratislava and Malta will be the country from where the implementation of this European idea will begin based on the single market which creates jobs, and the social aspect which ensures quality of life.

This will be the second Summit on a European level hosted in Malta, after the Valletta Summit held between European and African Leaders last November.
