PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER: Deputy Speaker attends Standing Committee of the CSPOC

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Censu Galea is participating in the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) which is taking place in London.

During the meeting, the agenda for the next conference to be held in the Seychelles in 2018 was discussed and decided. The Speakers had the opportunity to share suggested themes that could be placed on the agenda of the forthcoming meeting. The Maltese Parliament is proposing to discuss the role of Speakers as gatekeepers of good governance in Parliament, both as representatives and practitioners.

During the visit, participants of the meeting had the opportunity to meet Princess Royal Ann and Baroness Scotland of Asthal, Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

The Standing Committee of the CSPOC consists of a Chairperson and of 13 Members who represent the nine regions of the Commonwealth.

Malta will be hosting the Standing Committee meeting scheduled for 2019.
