PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER: Deputy Speaker receives Peruvian Ambassador

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta, ?ensu Galea, received a courtesy visit from Ambassador of the Republic of Peru Ms Maria Elvira Velasquez Rivas-Plata, who is based in Rome.

The two dignitaries recalled the long standing bilateral relations that exist between Malta and Peru, which diplomatic relations were established almost forty years ago, namely on the 28th April 1977.

They discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly exchanges in various fields, ranging from tourism, culture to education. Mention was made of the Peruvian students following post-graduate courses at IMLI and MEDAC.

They referred to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union which Malta will take over on the 1st of January 2017. The EU-CELAC Summit, which will be taking place in El Salvador in 2017, also featured in the discussion.

Ambasador Rivas-Plata is also accredited to the Holy See and to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
