STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL HERITAGE, ARTS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT Manoel Theater launches first in-house production – Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The Manoel Theater has officially launched its next production, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The opening of the booth of this production at the Manoel Theater will be on the 17th of July. This will be the first in-house musical production of this theater. Swe eney Todd is a work by the pen of the famous composer Stephen Sondheim, who died last year, and has achieved international success as well as several awards.

The Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici mentioned the importance of such initiatives, because they place theater at the heart of our country’s creative ecosystem. “Through in-house productions we will continue to foster more love for theater,” said Minister Bonnici.

Manoel Theater Chief Massimo Zammit said in his speech, “The theater has a long history of productions, and we are proud to be hosting our first in-house production. The production is made up of actors and a local production team, which includes costumes and a set built by the Manoel Theater team, including the famous ‘barber’s chair’ . “

This production will see some of the best artists of the Maltese musical theater under the direction of Lucienne Camilleri, with musical direction by Ryan Paul Abela. Roger Tirazona will play the lead role of Sweeney Todd, along with Kateriana Fenech as Mrs. Lovett, with the participation of more actors including Stephen Oliver, Jasmine Farrugia, Ryan Grech, Gianluca Cilia, Noel Zarb, Stefania Grech Vella and Karl Bartolo.
