“As two integral countries in the Mediterranean region it is essential that we engage in strong dialogue in order to experience a stronger region.” This was outlined by the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg during a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna on the margins of the Paris Peace Forum which is being held in Paris, France.
A very important point on the agenda of this meeting was the immigration situation in the region. From his end, Minister Ian Borg reiterated how the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) remains a crucial one, where what is being said on paper can be implemented in reality. Ian Borg went on to say that the relocation system is an important one for our country and thanked France for the assistance it has found and will be finding in 2023 on this aspect.
Minister Borg and Minister Colonna also discussed in detail the collaboration between the two countries on the United Nations Security Council, being the only two countries of the European Union for this term. Minister Borg explained Malta’s priorities for this term and how Malta believes in the need for dialogue for more peace and security around the world.
Malta also participated in the celebration of the 104th anniversary of the Armistice where Minister Borg also met the President of France Emmanuel Macron. During this celebration Ian Borg had discussions with the President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Santiago Cafiero, and also with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for the United Kingdom James Cleverly.
