Malta has been a regular contributor to the Anna Lindh Foundation’s (ALF) budget since 2005, supporting the Foundation’s work in cultural dialogue in the Mediterranean.
The ALF focuses its work on combating extremist discourse and radicalisation; promoting an inclusive society; and promoting a culture-based dialogue. As a state that places the Mediterranean at the centre of its foreign policy priorities, Malta sees ALF activities as important to increase dialogue and cooperation in the region.
Malta and ALF have cooperated on several projects over the past years. In 2016, Malta hosted the Med Forum, focusing on youth sector leaders and civil society. Malta has been actively involved in the Young Mediterranean Voices events, with regular meetings starting in 2018. In 2019, youth representatives met with the Foreign Ministers of the 5+5 Western Mediterranean Dialogue during their meeting in Malta, and at the Youth, Mobility and Education Forum in preparation for the Summit of the Two Shores, as well as during a side event which was held at the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.
As in previous years, Malta is committing the sum of €100,000 over three years covering the period 2021-2023 to ALF’s budget in support of its activities. This contribution will serve to continue dialogue between civil society, youth organisations and other partners in the pursuit of peace in the Mediterranean.
