More than 80,000 persons received their vouchers through registered post
Around €1.5 million was injected into the economy in the first week of use of the €100 government vouchers. This was announced by Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri while also detailing the outcome so far resulting from the use of the vouchers, as well as the process of distribution of the same vouchers by registered mail.
“During the first week, €765,525 were redeemed from the red vouchers while €665,370 were redeemed through the blue vouchers”, explained Minister Schembri, while adding that these were redeemed in about 6,500 venues, ranging from restaurants, hotels and shops. He explained that there are 3,834 clothing and services shops, 2,473 accommodations and restaurants, and 172 services and accommodations which are now accepting vouchers. “It is even more encouraging that there are 690 new shops accepting the exchange of vouchers. This wide range of outlets bodes well for the economic regeneration of our country”, continued the minister.
He also recalled that as of June 4, 117,485 people had downloaded their voucher digitally, while those who did not do so would receive their vouchers by post, the distribution of which began on the June 7. ‘There are 328,251 people who will be receiving their vouchers through registered mail. So far, 80,000 people have received their printed vouchers. It is important to note that when the voucher is delivered by registered mail, the residents must present their ID cards. This same person can also sign for the vouchers of other eligible residents living in the same household. If a person happens to be out of the house and there is no one at home, a notification will be left with a reference number, which must then be presented at the nearest post office, together with the identity card when the person goes to collect the vouchers”, explained the minister.

It was also explained during the conference how businesses should make sure that the voucher transaction has been executed properly by taking a photo of the tax receipt after scanning the voucher and approve that transaction only when they see the ‘Voucher Transaction Complete’ notification.
The minister urged businesses to make the best use of the guidance document sent to them and ensure that even their employees are familiar with the details of how to run the app.
The minister concluded by reiterating that the vouchers may be redeemed until September 15, while also encouraging businesses to make use of the available advertising material and be innovative in order to help the economic regeneration of our country.
