THE MINISTRY FOR THE ECONOMY, EUROPEAN FUNDS AND LANDS Minister Silvio Schembri highlights Malta’s diversified and resilient economy at the Indian European Business Forum

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri was the guest of honour for the Indian European Business Forum, a high-profile event held yesterday at the House of Lords in Westminster, London.

The event, entitled Empowering Indo-Malta Partnership as Economic Powerhouse, was attended by numerous high-profile entrepreneurs, mostly with an Indian connection or interest, from all over the world, such as Mr G. P. Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group, Mr Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Resources, Mr S. P. Lohia, Group Chairman of Indorama Corporation, and UK’s Minister for Tech and Digital Economy Paul Scully, amongst many other dignitaries and distinguished guests. Baroness Verma led the proceedings of the event.

In addressing the attendees, Minister Schembri outlined how Malta, despite being devoid of any natural resources, has gradually become one of the best performing economies of the EU, with a diversified and resilient economy. He also outlined the main reasons why Malta is a hub of investment opportunities given its economic, political and social stability, its strategic location, its excellent links, an efficient tax system, the availability of highly skilled, English-speaking human resources, efficient public services, and the overall ease of doing business. Malta also offers a host of fiscal and financial incentives.

Minister Schembri highlighted that the two countries, despite being miles apart and their huge disparity in size, still share common grounds on which investment opportunities can be effectively realized to the benefit of both countries.

Both countries, former British colonies, share a common view towards being self-reliant and in their openness to the outside world for business and constant drive towards transformation.

Minister Schembri was highly welcomed by those present and was also presented with a memorable award for his contribution in favour of this forum.

Minister Schembri was accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ronald Mizzi, MGI CEO Jean Pierre Attard, and MIMCOL Chairperson Adrian Said.
