A new urban greening project with a sustainable open space will be implemented by Ambjent Malta at Madonna ta’ Fatima Parish Church, Pietà.
This was announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia who explained that this investment of over €100,000 includes the creation of green open space, the installation of water tanks that can store approx. 15,000 litres of rainwater, irrigation system, and lighting fixtures.
A number of trees and shrubs will be planted as part of this project.
Minister Farrugia said that these greening projects in the heart of our community are beneficial to our wellbeing and our environment. “These projects are giving back green open spaces to the community, which will serve as a place where citizens can enjoy their time with their families, thus improving the quality of life.”
This space will also serve to capture water, which in turn will be used to irrigate the planted trees and shrubs. Specifically, the space will also serve as insulation since it has the capacity to retain heat in winter and keep temperatures cool in summer, thus improving the energy conservation of the building.
