THE MINISTRY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY AND ENTERPRISE AND THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT: €700,000 for greening projects in various localities

Government assistance to local councils for residents’ benefit

The Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise presented €700,000 to various local councils to carry out greening projects in their respective localities.

Thanks to the ‘Urban Greening’ scheme, operated by Ambjent Malta, 11 environmental projects will be carried out aimed at embellishing different areas within the community.

Each submitted project was evaluated based on five criteria which include the environmental aspect of the project, originality, the cultural aspects and the benefits towards the community, the aesthetic design, and the implementation period of the project.

The beneficiaries were presented with the agreement by Minister Miriam Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli, through which they can carry out their projects.

Minister Miriam Dalli explained how through these allocated funds 11 projects will be financed, including in Għajnsielem, Rabat (Malta), Ħamrun, Paola and Żejtun. Through these projects, residents will see new urban spaces and regeneration of abandoned gardens for a cleaner environment.

“With one project after another, we want to enhance our localities with better, safer and more sustainable recreational spaces. Abandoned areas will be regenerated to improve the environment in urban areas. As promised in the electoral manifesto, we want residents to have access to more open spaces, as close as possible to where they live or work,” said Minster Miriam Dalli.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli remarked that, through these funds, local councils can implement greening projects that help in the beautification of urban localities and create a better environment for their residents.

“Quality of life is one of the government’s highest priorities – as such, rest assured that together with the local government division we will strive for more schemes which aid local councils in implementing more greening projects on a local level,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
