THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania Mahmoud Thabit Kombo presents his Letters of Credence to the President of Malta

High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania Mahmoud Thabit Kombo presented his Letters of Credence to President George Vella at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta.

President Vella welcomed the High Commissioner to Malta and expressed hope for further cooperation with Tanzania during his term in office. The President referred to the very constructive relationship between Tanzania and the EU and the ongoing efforts to foster trade and growth. He also recalled that Malta has launched its own Strategy for Africa in January 2020 which reflects an innovative approach to Africa and which, coupled with the opening of our first sub-Saharan embassies in Ghana and Ethiopia, consolidates Malta’s commitment to being a bridge between continents. Multilateral cooperation, President Vella said, continues to be implemented effectively through the Commonwealth and its projects geared towards combatting the effects of climate change.

High Commissioner Mahmoud Thabit Kombo expressed his country’s appreciation to the contribution that Malta is making to capacity building in a number of important sectors such as diplomacy and maritime law studies. Several students have taken their tertiary specialisation studies in Malta with excellent results, which are greatly beneficial to Tanzanian authorities. He also gave an overview of the country’s economic growth, primarily thanks to a very strong touristic profile in the region. With regards to sustainability, Malta is a model that Tanzania is increasingly looking at, particularly for the reduction of plastic pollution and for recycling in its broadest sense.
