THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT Mrs Miriam Vella presents certificates to the children who participated in the design for L-Istrina’s piggy bank

Mrs Miriam Vella, wife of the President of Malta, met the children who participated in the competition to select the drawings for the piggy banks of the BOV Piggy Bank Campaign 2022 in aid of L-Istrina. This year’s theme is ‘Be a friend, not a bully’.

During an event at Sant’Anton Palace, on Thursday evening, Mrs Vella presented certificates of participation to the children as a show of appreciation for their participation. Mrs Vella thanked all the children who sent their anti-bullying drawings through which they are contributing to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, which helps all those who seek its help.

The L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign is organised together with the Bank of Valletta in collaboration with the Division of Education.

Mr Simon Azzopardi, Chief Wealth Management Officer at the Bank of Valletta, said that in the 19 years since this campaign was first held, more than €2.6 million have been raised in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Mr Matthew Vella said that this campaign provides children with a space to express their thoughts and wishes. He also pointed out the strong message conveyed by the children through their anti-bullying drawings that children going through these situations are not alone.

The L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign competition was open to all primary school students. The three drawings that will be on the piggy banks were chosen by a board made up of university students who are studying for an M.A. in History of Art. The piggy banks will be distributed in schools towards the end of this year with the final sum raised in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation being presented during L-Istrina, on Boxing Day.
