THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT The Ambassador of Nepal, Gyan Chandra Acharya, presents his Letters of Credence to the President of Malta

The Ambassador of Nepal, Gyan Chandra Acharya, presented his Letters of Credence to President George Vella at the Grandmaster’s Palace, Valletta.

President Vella observed that, despite the distances, relations between the two countries have gained momentum in recent years. He referred to the sizeable Nepalese community in Malta, stating that their contribution to the economic growth and social fabric is greatly appreciated. The President added that Malta supports the EU’s engagement with Nepal through mutual commitment to democratic values, rule of law and fundamental freedoms. He encouraged the Ambassador to engage with educational and training institutions in Malta during his term in office.

Ambassador Chandra Acharya gave an overview of his plans to deepen relations with Malta in select sectors, especially in education and tourism. With regards to the latter, Nepal looks closely at the manner in which the tourism sector in Malta has been successfully developed along the years. The Ambassador observed that Malta and Nepal share a very strong commitment to multilateralism through concrete initiatives and projects, especially in the United Nations framework. He congratulated Malta on the work it is carrying out during its term as non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council which commenced in January 2023.
