The Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Maher Salem Tarawneh presented his Letters of Credence to President George Vella at Sant’Anton Palace, Attard.
President Vella welcomed the Ambassador and conveyed Malta’s longstanding committment to the further enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Moving on to relations between the European Union and Jordan, President Vella stated that Malta welcomes the constructive and productive contacts between the two.
The President expressed the view that it remains important to ensure that the EU maintains its support for Jordan. He referred in particular to the significant efforts made by Jordan to host Syrian refugees, noting also that difficulties were further enhanced by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Discussions also touched upon the pressing challenges and latest developments in the Mediterranean region, with specific focus being placed on the Middle East Peace Process.
