THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova calls on Deputy Speaker

New Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova Anatolie Urecheanu has paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Claudette Buttigieg.

Ambassador Urecheanu recalled the excellent bilateral relations that exist between the two countries, and mentioned the official visit to Malta in April 2014 of Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Natalie Gherman.

The Ambassador expounded on the latest political developments in his country, and informed the Deputy Speaker that last August the Moldovan Parliament confirmed the government of the pro-Western President Maia Sandu.

The Deputy Speaker referred to co-operation between the two parliaments, particularly through the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The two dignitaries discussed areas of collaboration, with the Ambassador referring to the possibility of Maltese investments in Moldova in the agricultural sector.

The relations between Moldova and the European Union, including the Eastern Partnership initiative, also featured in the discussion, with Deputy Speaker Buttigieg reiterating that Malta will continue to work within the EU to support Moldova in achieving concrete political, societal and economic reforms, so as to bring Moldova closer to the EU.

Anatolie Urecheanu was accompanied by Vladimir Sacagiu, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Rome.
