THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER: Norwegian Ambassador pays farewell call on Mr Speaker

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Margit F. Tveiten paid a farewell call to Speaker Anglu Farrugia at the end of her tour of duty.

Speaker Farrugia expressed his appreciation to Ms Tveiten for her hard work in enhancing the strong bilateral relations that exist between Malta and Norway, which relations were established diplomatically on 7th February 1969.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Tveiten discussed various topics, which included how the Covid-19 pandemic was addressed in Malta and Norway, the employment situation in Malta (with hundreds of Norwegian workers employed mainly in the gaming sector), and the relations with the European Union.

The forthcoming 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, to be held in Vienna in September this year, as well as the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly elections to be held in July 2021, also featured in the discussion.

Ms Margit F. Tveiten, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, was accompanied by Ms Marianne Krey-Jacobsen, Counsellor at the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Rome.
