THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Speaker Farrugia receives a farewell call from the Egyptian ambassador

Speaker Anglu Farrugia received a farewell visit from Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Nada Draz, whose tenure of office in Malta is coming to an end.

Speaker Farrugia expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Draz for her hard work, during her tenure of office in Malta, whereby the very close and friendly relations between the two countries for the past fifty-six years, were further strengthened. He recalled his visit to Cairo in May 2018 to participate in the 5th Summit of Speakers of the PA UfM.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Draz discussed various issues of mutual interest such as COP26 and COP27 (which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022), the forthcoming elections in Libya, the High-Level Segment for Speakers of Parliament of the 143rd IPU Assembly, which will take place in Madrid this coming weekend, and PAM.

The two sides also spoke about the relations with the European Union, with reference to migration and human rights, as well as the COVID-19 situation.

The numerous Egyptian diplomats who graduated in a Master’s in Diplomacy at MEDAC also featured in the discussion.

Ms Nada Draz, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was accompanied by Mr Abram Gad, Deputy Chief of Mission.
