THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER: Speaker Farrugia receives the Spanish Ambassador on a farewell call

Speaker of the House of Representatives Anglu Farrugia received a farewell visit from Maria Consuelo Femenía Guardiola, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Malta, whose term of office in Malta is coming to an end.

Speaker Farrugia expressed his appreciation to the Spanish Ambassador for her hard work during her tenure of office in Malta, whereby the excellent and long-standing relations between Malta and Spain (established in 1968) have been furthered strengthened.

He noted his recent visit to Madrid to participate in the High-Level Segment for Speakers of Parliament of the 143rd IPU Assembly and mentioned his meeting with his Spanish counterpart on the fringes of the said conference. He referred to the Maltese diaspora in Spain, particularly those in Siviglia, who have been there for many years and who are very active.

Ambassador Guardiola highlighted the visit of the Spanish State Secretary for EU Affairs, which took place in the middle of last month, and to his meeting with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign and European Affairs.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Guardiola discussed issues of mutual interest, including the transparency of the building of the Maltese Parliament and the streaming of the discussions held in the House of Representatives.

Maria Consuelo Femenía Guardiola, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, was accompanied by Daniel Sato, Deputy Head of Mission.
