THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER The High Commissioner of the Republic of India pays a farewell visit to Speaker Farrugia

High Commissioner of the Republic of India Sangeeta Bahadur paid a farewell visit to Speaker of the House of Representatives Anglu Farrugia, as her term of office is coming to an end.

Speaker Farrugia expressed his appreciation to the Indian High Commissioner for her hard work in enhancing the friendly bilateral relations between Malta and India, which were established diplomatically on 10th March 1965. He said that these were further enhanced by various high-level meetings, including his meeting with the Indian Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu on 17th September 2018, during the latter’s visit to Malta.

Speaker Farrugia mentioned the Maltese missionaries residing in India, and the volunteers and lay persons visiting missionary settlements. He also referred to the Indian community in Malta which has adapted itself very much to the Maltese life.

Speaker Farrugia and High Commissioner Bahadur discussed issues of mutual interest, such as the adoption of Indian children by the Maltese. The situation in India, particularly the Indian economy, which is doing very well, also featured in the discussion.
