A total of 850 boxes of second-generation illicit liquor were confiscated in Matungulu sub county during a crackdown conducted by National Government Administrative officers (NGAO) in collaboration with county officials.
Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko said the impounded illicit alcohol included 20 bottles of 250 ml in each of the 850 boxes.
‘The alcohol was seized in Matungulu market and one can imagine the level the vice has penetrated in the community,’ decried Ouko.
She said proliferation of illicit liquor was a national security threat and urged the public to volunteer information that will see the culprits arrested.
The county commissioner added that the vice has taken a toll on many communities and has contributed to the spread of HIV and increase in crime in the country.
She also highlighted the risks of smoking bhang saying that it had led to mental health issues with many users unable to perform their duties or provide for their families.

lose to schools and residential areas that they risk closure.
She said that she has directed enforcement agencies to ensure the national government directive is followed.
The administrator also sent a stern warning to the landlords whose premises are being used to sell illegal second generation liquor and drugs that their days are numbered.
During the crackdown the distributors and manufacturers escaped arrest but police said they are on their trail and will apprehend them.
The crackdown comes days after the government directive to suspend all licenses of second generation alcohol manufacturers and distillers pending fresh vetting and closure of bars within 300 metres of schools and residential areas.
