A year ago, Niger accused France of releasing terrorists who then planned an attack

Ouagadougou: Niger accused France, a year ago, of having released terrorists unilaterally and of having violated its airspace in a logic of destabilization of the country.

In a press release dated August 9, 2023, the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) revealed that France ‘unilaterally released terrorist prisoners’ who then took part in a planning meeting for an attack on military positions in the three-border area.

For the CNSP it was ‘a real plan to destabilize’ Niger which aims to discredit the new authorities to deprive them of popular support and to create a feeling of generalized insecurity in the country.

France immediately rejected everything, explaining that the flight of its military aircraft was done in collaboration with the Nigeriens and that it had not released any terrorists.

Also a year ago, France suspended its military agreements with Niger. In response, Niger simply denounced these agreements contrary to its new vision and its desire for sovereignty.
