The active participation of the people in planting seedlings is a great opportunity to enhance economic development in Ethiopia, participants of tree planting campaign held at Gelan Guda Sub-City of Shaggar City Administration, Oromia Region said today.
Officials and residents have planted seedlings today as part of the ongoing campaign to plant 500 million seedlings in a single day that started this morning.
“The unity and active participation demonstrated in planting the seedlings as one nation is great opportunity to put more footprints in multisectoral development in the country, ” they said during the occasion.
The participants have also expressed that green legacy initiative is crucial to build green country to the next generation.
Ethiopians across the nation have been taking part in today’s campaign with the objective of breaking the 350 million seedlings planting record carried out by Ethiopians in 2019 in a single day.
Ethiopia has been carrying out a massive tree planting activities under its Green Legacy which is initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
So far, it has successfully completed the first round of the initiative by planning 25 billion seedlings over the past four years.
It is indicated that Ethiopia’s forest coverage has jumped over 17 percent due to the massive planting of seedlings conducted over the past four years.
