Africa Regional Forum on Governance Innovation, Africa Public Service Day to Be Held in Tandem

Addis Ababa: The Africa Regional Forum on Governance Innovation, focusing on governance innovation and the delivery of agile, inclusive, and people-centered services, will be held in conjunction with the 10th Africa Public Service Day in Addis Ababa.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is organizing the Regional Forum on Public Service Innovation. This event falls within the framework of the Continental Celebration of the 2025 African Public Service Day, scheduled from June 21-23.

Participants from Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Least Developed Countries, and Small Islands Development States across Africa will be in attendance. Civil Service Commissioner Mekuria Haile, during a media briefing, highlighted that the forum aims to discuss strategies for providing inclusive and people-centered services supported by innovation.

The forum emphasizes increasing citizen participation and awareness, enhancing monitoring capacity, reducing corruption, ensuring accountability, and boosting social inclusion. According to a statement related to the event, the forum is organized under the project ‘Innovating Public Service Delivery to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the Transfer and Adaptation of Omnichannel Approaches.’

Omnichannel refers to a customer-centric strategy that integrates all channels, providing a unified and consistent brand experience across physical stores, apps, and websites. The project aims to enhance the capacities of government officials in selected countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean to promote effective and inclusive public service delivery, ensuring no one is left behind.

The overall objective of the Regional Forum is to provide a platform to explore new governance innovation approaches and learn about innovative practices in public service delivery. This aims to strengthen governments’ capacities to advance the implementation of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on SDG16 concerning strong institutions, peace, and justice.

Agenda 2063 serves as Africa’s blueprint and master plan for transforming the continent into a global powerhouse, while the 2030 Agenda emphasizes the need to build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.
