African Union Holding Retreat of Executive Council on Agenda 2063

The fifth retreat of the African Union (AU) executive council is underway to discuss the second ten-year plan of Agenda 2063 in Kigali, Rwanda.

A three-day ministerial retreat extended to the Ministers in Charge of Finance and Planning, being held under the theme “Accelerating the Implementation of Agenda 2063,” it was indicated.

Agenda 2063 was adopted by the 24th Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa in January 2015.

The Agenda embodies the aspirations of the African people, framed in a collective ambition thus: “The Africa We Want in 2063”.

In this view, the retreat is also expected to come up with the key recommendations on the way forward for the African continent’s strategic framework to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development.

The ministerial retreat would be also helpful to harness political will and commitment – including resourcing of the First Ten Year Implementation Plan.

Moreover, the gathering is anticipated to agree on Agenda 2063 Coordination and Implementation architecture finally.
