Ouagadougou: AS SONABHY organized a month-long basketball holiday camp on its multi-sport arena in Ouagadougou where around a hundred young talents were trained in the fundamentals of the discipline. The closing ceremony of this activity took place on July 20.
The Ouagadougou Oil Club, AS SONABHY, has had a healthy holiday for its young nuggets in this holiday camp . The young campers, aged between 4 and 17, learned the basics of putting the ball to the basket: dribbling, handling the ball, passing, shooting, etc. were on the menu.
One of the kingpins of this camp, the president of the basketball section of AS SONABHY Amsetou Traoré/Ouédraogo said that the objective of this activity responds to the missions of her club: to promote hand sports in Burkina Faso .
‘This allows young people to come together and avoid certain social ills. It is an educational continuity for AS SONABHY in the sense that we detect future players to strengthen our squad , ‘ she says.
She specified that these young people were able
to learn about basketball while keeping themselves healthy during the holidays.
Several times champion of Burkina in several categories, AS SONABHY through the coaches will take advantage of detection to expand their squad. This is the case of the National Hydrocarbons juniors and cadets coach Harouna Ouédraogo who mentions that ‘the camp was welcome because it had been two years since we had organized a camp and that meant that we had difficulty managing the small categories in terms of players. The president had the good idea of ??organizing a camp to allow us to increase our numbers.’
For the representative of the honorary president of AS SONABHY, Oboulbiga Rodrigue, director of human resources of the National Hydrocarbons, ‘for many years, SONABHY has been actively engaged in the promotion of hand sports, recognizing their importance in the physical and mental development of our youth. Basketball, in particular, is a sport that instills essential values ??such as teamwork, discipline and perseverance. T
hese values ??are at the heart of our mission, not only as a company, but also as citizens committed to the well-being of our population.’
It was the economic operator Boukaré Ouédraogo who sponsored this holiday camp. He said he was amazed by what he saw. ‘The next edition, I will come with my children. I encourage other parents to get the kids involved during these holidays. This allows them to learn a lot of things and it creates a framework of friendship between them,’ he said.
The president of the Burkinabè Basketball Federation (FEBBA) Souleymane Yaméogo known as Yamsoul, former president of AS SONABHY attended this closing ceremony. He praised the spirit of foresight of the president of the basketball section of AS SONABHY Amsétou Traoré/Ouédraogo.
He promised to support these types of initiatives in terms of equipment, administration and security while sharing his experience.

hese young talents to join the workforce. Several actors, former players, supervisors and managers of AS SONABHY received registration certificates for their contribution to the development of the ball.
