Narok County Commissioner, Isaac Masinde, has challenged beneficiaries of the Elimu Scholarship to be role models in school by concentrating on their studies.
Masinde advised the young learners not to engage in unproductive business in school that could ruin their morals, but instead challenged them to be focused, so that they can produce good grades that will earn them professional courses.
‘You are getting this help so that you can become professionals and live a decent life. I warn you to avoid friends that will lead you to drug abuse, an unproductive culture that could easily lead you to marriage among others,’ he warned.
He spoke at his office grounds during the flagging-off of 256 pupils in the County, who had qualified for the full scholarship.
‘This year, we have had the highest number of students benefiting from the scholarship as compared to other years. The children were selected from very poor backgrounds and we expect them to do well, when they join secondary schools,’ he said.
He said the
Selection Committee visited all the beneficiaries’ homes to confirm that indeed, they hailed from extremely poor and vulnerable backgrounds.
While congratulating the beneficiaries of the program, Masinde asked their parents and guardians to cooperate with the school management, so that they could give their children ample time to produce their best.
Narok County Director of Education, Apuko Apollo, asked the few chosen to maximize their time in school, saying thousands of other children who had requested the chance had been left out as only a few slots were available.
The Elimu Scholarship County Coordinator, Christopher Keya, confirmed that no corruption cases were reported during the process and the children selected were the neediest.
Those selected, he said, had attained over 280 marks, while those from minority groups and persons living with disability, must have attained at least 250 marks.

oney, and full shopping.
