Body of girl suspected of drowning recovered at Rundu

The body of an eight-year-old girl suspected to have drowned in a stream at Sikanduko residential area in Rundu, was recovered on Sunday morning.

The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator in the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu revealed this in the police weekend crime report Sunday night.

According to Kanyetu, the incident occurred around lunchtime on Saturday at a stream located alongside the B8 main road.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene where the girl was playing with peers when the alleged drowning occurred.

Kanyetu said members of the police in Rundu attended to the call, but they could not retrieve the body until Sunday.

The girl was identified as Helvi Ihemba.

The body was taken to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem and further police investigations.

Her next of kin have been informed.
