Bomet Partner With NGO To Uplift Health Programs In The County

The County Government of Bomet in partnership with The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) through Kenya Red Cross Society with support from USAID is implementing a community-centric epidemic and pandemic preparedness program.

Addressing the media after hosting a delegation of senior officers from the International Federation of Red Cross, Red Crescent, Kenya Red Cross, and USAID, Governor Hillary Barchok announced that the partners have supported his administration in the implementation of several health projects and programs in the region.

‘Our partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society has seen us implement several projects on matters of health, and environment, among others across Bomet County. In line with the national government’s policy of promoting primary health care, our partnership focuses on the prevention and early detection of diseases,’ affirmed Barchok.

Barchok further noted that his administration is currently working closely to train the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in Sotik and Chepalungu sub-counties on how to respond to pandemics and endemics at the grassroots.

This program started back in October 2018 focusing on three work streams of Community Preparedness, National Society and County Preparedness, Private Sector, and Key Stakeholders’ Engagement aimed at improving the status of the health sector in the county.

The governor revealed that the current funds supporting the program will run until September 2023 and that his administration and partners have intentions of expanding the program to the rest of the sub-counties.

‘Going forward, we hope to upscale this program to cover Bomet East, Konoin, and Bomet Central Sub counties,’ revealed Barchok
