Construction Of Masinde Muliro Stadium To Begin

The County government of Bungoma officially handed over the construction work of Masinde Muliro stadium at Kanduyi to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts.

The Cabinet Secretary (C.S) for the Ministry Mr. Ababu Namwamba signed a memorandum of understanding with the County government of Bungoma whereby the National government will complete the construction work and thereafter hand over the project to the County government after completion.

The handing-over ceremony was done at the Stadium and witnessed by National government and County government officials.

The CS commended the County government for the effort it had made towards the construction of the stadium which he said was targeted to be completed by April to be used for the Madaraka day celebrations on June 1st this year.

Mr. Namwamba said that the design works for the completion of the stadium were ready and that the work would start immediately.

He said that the stadium would be constructed to International standards to enable the c
ountry to host international matches in collaboration with neighboring countries.

The CS noted that these International matches when held in the country will contribute largely to the growth and development of infrastructure and the economy in general.

He emphasized the importance of sports in the country saying it played a big role in the economy of the country as it served as a source of income to many youths alongside uniting communities and countries too.

Mr. Namwamba said that the stadium requires adequate space and asked residents who had set up buildings on government land and had received notices to vacate the land to do so without fail.

Governor Lusaka who signed on behalf of the County government of Bungoma thanked the government for selecting Bungoma to host the national celebrations and that the stadium when complete will be an asset to the community.

He said that the County government was in the process of constructing a bus park at Kanduyi which will have stalls for the business community a
nd that priority will be given to those who were moved from the space to give way for the construction of the bus stop.
