Councillor Simasiku wants improved service delivery in his constituency

Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency Councillor Kennedy Simasiku has said although there has been progress in his constituency, there is still a need to improve service delivery in road networks, sewerage, water provision and business investments.

In an interview with Nampa recently, Simasiku said the situation in the Macaravani West and Nova informal settlement, where people are using communal taps, is worrisome. He said a solution needs to be found urgently to address the situation.

Simasiku said the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development only allocated N.dollars 8 million to the Katima Mulilo Town Council, which is minimal compared to other towns.

He however said whatever funds the town receives should make an impact on the ground, because people demand the best, especially with the leaders whom they have elected in power.

“It is unfortunate that money was sent back in the past to the central government and the quality of services provided left much to be desired. In such instances, the value of money was questioned because it was compromised. As a leader, I wish to see money invested in quality service that lasts longer and does not require constant maintenance that would drain the town’s coffers,” he said.

Simasiku singled out Lifasi Street, saying it is an example to the public that funds that are spent are worth the outcome.

Meanwhile, Katima Mulilo Town Council public relations officer Sonja Kafe said they are busy repairing potholes, but they are facing financial constraints which are hindering the project.
