Eregi TTC To Become A Fully-Fledged University


Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has promised to fast-track the upgrade of Eregi Teachers Training College (ETTC) into a fully-fledged University.

Barasa said, the County is working closely with the National Government to achieve the dream in a bid to offer several courses to the students in the region and other nearest Counties.

‘This is among one of our ambitious development plans that Kakamega County aims to actualise and enroll more students in special courses,’ he revealed.

A task force appointed by the Governor had recommended the upgrade of the ETTC into a constituent campus of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

The governor was speaking to some of the stakeholders from the Idhako South community at his home in Harambee, Matungu Sub-County who visited him.

The University will be based in Ikolomani Sub County where the college is built.

The governor also emphasised his administration’s commitment to critical initiatives which include converting Milimani and Imalava dispe
nsaries into self-sufficient Health Centres.

Others include equipping Sheywe Polytechnic, constructing Lukose Bridge, gazettement of Imalaba Market and building Shisejeri modern market.

He also assured the community of the completion of the Butwehe last mile water connectivity in the Kaluni, Shanjesto and Madivini areas.

He was accompanied by the Chief Officer for special programs Patrick Butichi among other county officials.

The task force had established that the college has adequate land, classrooms, lecture halls staff quarters, toilets, labs and a first intake of 3000 students.

The institution was established by the Catholic Mill Hill Fathers in 1949 to train teachers.
