Ethiopia, Denmark Agree to Further Bolster Bilateral, Regional Cooperation


Ethiopia and Denmark expressed desires to further bolster existing strategic bilateral relations as well as regional and continental issues of common interest.

Foreign Affairs Minister Taye Atske Selassie held discussion with his Denmark’s counterpart, Lars Løkke Rasmussen today on issues of common interest.

During the occasion, Spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Meles Alem said that the foreign ministers held a fruitful discussion on various issues.

Foreign Minister Taye particularly discussed with his Danish counterpart on need to bolster the relationship between the two countries, Meles said.

‘The two foreign ministers had a fruitful discussion that would help strengthen friendships between Ethiopia and Denmark.

Moreover, they exchanged views on African and international issues. Foreign Minister Løkke expressed his country’s desire to further deepen relations with Ethiopia.’

The Danish foreign minister also expressed his country’s commitment to diversifying the longstanding ties with Ethiopia
in all spheres of cooperation, according to the spokesperson.

Noting that the Danish government wants to come up with a strategy regarding its relations with Africa, Meles indicated that the Denmark has acknowledged the greater role Ethiopia plays in this regard.

As a result, the foreign minister of Denmark appreciated Ethiopia for its concerted effort for peace and stability in the region.

The spokesperson also mentioned the commitment on the side of Ethiopian, adding that Foreign Minister Taye also appreciated Denmark’s support.

‘We have stated that there are many opportunities for Danish investors to invest in Ethiopia,’ Meles underscored.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to expand collaboration between the two countries in political as well as economic spheres.
