Ethiopian Ambassadors Deliberate on GERD Negotiations, Utilization of Nile River


The annual meeting of Ethiopia’s ambassadors in its 5th day today deliberated on the successive rounds of the trilateral negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Ambassador Sileshi Bekele, the Chief GERD Negotiator for Ethiopia and Ambassador Reta Alemu, Director General of International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave briefings for Ethiopian Ambassadors on the successive rounds of the trilateral negotiations between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan.

The two Ambassadors stated Ethiopia’s belief in the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of the Nile river waters and the rights and obligations stated in the Declaration of Principles (DOP).

They also expressed Ethiopia’s consistent stance of accommodating the interests of all the riparian countries.

The annual meeting of Ethiopia’s ambassadors has discussed on process of National Dialogue commission.

The National Dialogue Chief Commissioner, Professor Mesfin Araya briefed Ethiopian Ambassadors and Senior officials of
the Foreign Ministry this afternoon about the activities of the Commission.

Professor Mesfin stated that the Ethiopian overseas missions should contribute to the success of the national dialogue process through engaging the Ethiopian diaspora and the international community.
