EU Urges Peaceful Resolution in Venezuela Following U.S. Intervention


Brussels: The European Union has issued a statement emphasizing the need for calm and restraint in Venezuela following the recent U.S. intervention. Supported by 26 EU Member States, the EU stresses the importance of preventing escalation and ensuring a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in the country.

According to European Union, the statement highlights the necessity of upholding the principles of international law and the UN Charter. The EU reminds members of the United Nations Security Council of their responsibility to adhere to these principles, which are fundamental to international security. The EU has consistently maintained that Nicolás Maduro lacks democratic legitimacy and has called for a Venezuelan-led transition to democracy that respects the nation’s sovereignty. The rights of the Venezuelan people to determine their future are central to these efforts.

The European Union also acknowledges the global security threats posed by transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. It emp
hasizes that addressing these issues requires sustained cooperation that respects international law, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. The EU is actively coordinating with the United States and other international partners to facilitate dialogue among all parties involved, aiming for a negotiated, democratic, and inclusive solution led by Venezuelans.

The EU reiterates that respecting the will of the Venezuelan people is crucial for restoring democracy and resolving the crisis. At this pivotal moment, all actors are urged to respect human rights and international humanitarian law. The EU calls for the unconditional release of all political prisoners in Venezuela and assures that EU Member States are working closely to protect the safety of EU citizens, including those illegally detained in the country.
