Fellow African AAU Graduates Stress Importance of Strengthening Education Systems in Africa

Fellow African graduates of the Addis Ababa University (AAU) have underlined today the importance of strengthening the education systems in Africa.

Among the 8,868 graduate of the Addis Ababa University were students from different African countries.

The Ugandan Tindiwensi Edison who graduated in Masters of Science in Railway Engineering from the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT) told ENA that “I’m here for my graduation. And it has been a success. I have been under the specialization of rolling stock.”

According to him, “it was a pleasure to be in Ethiopia. I have found it a very nice place with welcoming people, nice experience with different kinds of foods which are not found in our countries.”

The Ugandan graduate further noted that it’s important to strengthen the education systems more so that we Africans can improve on our research in the different universities, because this is the way to go as we are advancing in technologies.

Edison advised fellow Africans to take up whenever an opportunity comes up because the world is still open for all of us.

The other graduate student from Rwanda, Hakizimana Jean de Dieu said “I’m feeling very happy, very excited for this day because to be a graduate of Masters of Science is a great step.”

Noting that the African Union Agenda 2063 is about Africa, he said “I encourage my generation to have this in mind that what Africa wants can be achieved through our effort.”

The Rwandan said, “Let’s love Africa. Let’s use the resources we have and the knowledge we acquire so that we can achieve even better than European countries.”

In her speech at graduation ceremony of the Addis Ababa University today, President Sahle-Work Zewde said Addis Ababa University should expand its vision by offering scholarships for other African students to strengthen African brotherhood, work together, and grow together.
