Residents of sub-counties in Marsabit county that border Ethiopia have been assured of their continued security and urged to go about their daily chores undisturbed.
Marsabit County Commissioner Mr. James Kamau also appealed residents to support government initiatives in maintaining law and order by volunteering useful information on security.
Speaking at Dukana primary school after a series of security meetings, Kamau said the government was concerned over sporadic incidents of attacks on innocent residents by suspected armed bandits.
The County Commissioner however assured that appropriate measures have been taken to tighten security in the Sub Counties of Dukana, Turbi and Sololo and asked locals not to allow strangers among them.
The CC, whose security team was accompanied by officials of the county peace committee led by the chairman Sora Guyo, reiterated the government’s commitment to providing security to Kenyans and their property at all times.
‘I assure you that the security agencies are alert
and all activities should go on uninterrupted,’ said the CC, asking the residents to go about their daily activities including learning in schools without fear.
Community leaders led by Ali Adano called on the government to heighten surveillance and mop up illegal firearms in wrong hands.
They also advocated for a joint operation against criminals in areas straddling the porous border by the governments of the two friendly neighbours.
‘We are ready and prepared to give our government the necessary support on this mission,’ said Adano.
Alliance for Local Communities in Hardship Areas (ALCHA) is supporting the four-day activity which has seen the communities pledge their resolve to work with the government in bolstering security.
