Graduands from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) have been urged to form and register groups to benefit from available government financial support.
Speaking during the graduation of 750 graduands of the first cohort of Ujuzi Mashinani initiative at Madaraka Primary School in Buuri Constituency, Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) Director for Infrastructure Development, Technology, and Innovation Engineer Edward Karani said the government as well as the private sector usually focus their support to registered groups as opposed to individuals.
He acknowledged that the authority had supported several registered groups financially in the area to start income-generating projects.
Engineer Karani said before the support comes through, MSEA needs to know where the group members come from, what they can do, and their needs and therefore the need for registering.
‘I am calling on the graduands to be genuine, reliable and trustworthy while performing their duties because many skille
d labour workers are regarded as untruthful,’ said Mr Karani who also regretted that many young people are involved in drug and alcohol abuse while others steal machines and equipment from their clients and work stations.
The Director said honesty is the key to success assuring the graduands that many job opportunities are available as long as they remain honest and trustworthy while performing their duties.
‘Before getting employment one must be referred by a person who knows their character well. I, therefore, advise you to join business communities to get good referrals in the future,’ said Mr Karani.
He lauded the area MP Mugambi Rindikiri for coming up with such a noble idea which he said will change the society positively.
On his side, Rindikiiri said this was just the first cohort and that others will follow to ensure various skills are available in the constituency.
‘We will continue with this program to ensure that we have a pool of skills here which will enhance our income generation and the ge
neral economic development of our constituency,’ said Mr Rindikiiri.
He said after the three-months course, all the graduands will continue enjoying his support in collaboration with other various government agencies and institutions.
