Harari, Benishangul-Gumuz States Launch Seedlings Planting Campaign

The tree seedlings campaign aimed at planting half a billion saplings in a day has started in Harari and Benishangul-Gumuz regional states.

Harari Regional State and Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State launched the campaign in their respective states early this morning.

At the launching ceremony in Harari State, Peace Minister Binalf Andualem, Planning and Development Commission Minister Futsum Assefa, and other senior federal and regional leaders attended the program and planted saplings.

Speaking on the occasion, Harari Region Chief Administrator Ordin Bedri said residents of rural and urban areas of the region have done a lot of work on their own initiative for the success of the initiative.

“Nowadays, the community has realized the importance of planting saplings and is maximizing effort for the success of Green Legacy Initiative,” he added.

According to him, the saplings planted earlier in the region have flourished.

Peace Minister Binalaf Andualem said on his part that the Green Legacy Initiative has turned turning arid places into lush green areas.

It has also been opening job opportunities for the youth, he added.

Officially launching the event in Benishangul-Gumuz, Chief Administrator Ashadli Hassan said “we will make history by achieving the overnight sapling planting plan.”

He added that the public has accepted the call and is widely participating in the plantation of tree seedlings to make the Green Legacy Initiative a success.
